The second session of our event titled “Materials Used in Historical Buildings and Experimental Approaches to Traditional Mortars” held within Mudurnu Süreyya Astarcı Vocational School has been successfully completed. As part of the event, compressive strength tests were performed on samples obtained from two different adobe mortars and three different horasan mortars prepared in the first session.

The experimental studies provided the opportunity to observe the effects of additives such as river sand and brick chips on mortar strength. The fact that mortars prepared by changing only a single component ratio exhibited different strength performances made a significant contribution to the understanding of traditional material characteristics. At the same time, the fracture patterns of the samples under pressure were also examined in detail by our students.

Believing in the contribution of applied training to the development of professional skills, our school offers students the opportunity to both reinforce their theoretical knowledge and gain field experience with such events. In this context, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our guest lecturer Res. Asst. Dr. Şule Ayengin Örteş for her valuable contributions to our event.

Following the experiments, traditional structures located in the Mudurnu district center were examined and the original qualities of the mortars used were observed on site. Our students gained practical experience in distinguishing new mortar applications from original materials.

We would also like to thank our Forestry Department faculty member Dr. Lecturer Orhan Kelleci for his contributions, who was always with us with his support during the planning and implementation processes of the event.
